Correspondence Files, 1945-1955.

Files (1945-1955) contain correspondence, memoranda, reports, minutes, notes, surveys, resumes, and publications regarding the Commission on Younger Churches and Orphaned Missions' (CYCOM) financial support for and missionary placement work in mission fields, mission societies, and younger churches from around the world. Correspondents include NLC and CYCOM officials, CYCOM representatives, Lutheran World Federation (LWF) officials, NLC participating church body leaders and mission board members, U.S. and foreign government leaders, foreign mission officials, international and national church and relief organizations, U.S. Lutheran. Pastors and seminary presidents, and in-service and prospective missionaries. CYCOM's relief efforts in China, under the direction of Daniel Nelson; in Palestine, under the direction of Edwin Moll; and in Tanganyika Territory, East Africa (became Tanzania in 1964), under the direction of George N. Anderson, are largely represented in the files.

The National Lutheran Council (NLC) was established on September 6, 1918 as a common agency of participating Lutheran church bodies to administer domestic programs, publicize Lutheran activities and beliefs, and provide overseas emergency relief to areas devastated by World War I.
